Hotel 1898
Historical hotel with rooftop pool
Housed in a magnificent 19th century mansion, which was built for the Lopez y Lopez family and later became the HQ for the Filipino Tobacco Company, the hotel derives it’s name from the year that the Philippines gained independence from Spain – 1898.
Aside from the privilege of staying in one of the best-looking buildings on Las Ramblas, guests of Hotel 1898 can enjoy plenty of other treats besides, such as a dip in their rooftop terrace swimming pool, a steam bath, massage or work out in their spa and gym, or, for the more erudite visitor, a browse through their library.
Although the rooms are not the biggest, Hotel 1898 didn’t earn its reputation as one of the finest spots in Barcelona for nothing and there’s a touch of class about each suite as well of course as standard four-star amenities, such as WiFi, and several first-rate bars and restaurants, which offer a seasonal tapas menu. For quality and comfort in the centre, this one’s hard to beat.
