Altair

For travel fans in Barcelona, there’s really only one bookstore you need to know about – Altair. It’s one of the biggest travel bookstores in the whole world, and you can find pretty much any travel-related book you could ever want. The shop takes up two floors, with a small café and reading area downstairs. They have your classic guidebooks, of course, but you can also find a selection of more specialised reading material – all related to travel, of course. If you like hiking in the mountains, there’s a section for that.

If you’re more interested in reading illustrated stories about travel, they’ve got that too. And if you’d like to bring international flavours into your own kitchen, just pop downstairs to look at the world cuisine section. Altair also holds travel-related events, like discussions with travel journalists, book signings, and book launches. If you can’t stop by the store yourself, you can also check out their online travel magazine, Altair Magazine. It’s in Spanish, but there are plenty of photos and drawings you can browse through to get inspired for your next trip.
