La Boqueria
From bulls' tails to black eels
A sprawling shrine to fresh produce, right on Barcelona’s main artery – Las Ramblas – La Boqueria is the kind of market that would have Jamie Oliver searching for superlatives (…and coming up with ‘pucker’).
Everything from bulls’ tails to black eels are on sale, and if you’re eating out in Barcelona chances are your main course was plucked still wriggling from one of Boqueria’s bustling stalls – even Ferran Adria does his shopping here.
Saturday mornings can be a bit of a stampede, whilst on Sunday the market is closed, but otherwise turn up anytime between 8am and 8:30pm.
The best deals lie in the centre and towards the rear of the market where tourists are less plentiful.
