Casa Fuster
Former chocolate factory turned 5-star hotel
Architecture lovers with a few euros to spend should definitely put the Casa Fuster Hotel on their Barcelona accommodation shortlist. A former chocolate factory, the aristocratic Mr. Fuster had this building converted into a huge mansion for his missus at the turn of the 19th/20th century, commissioning none other than Lluis Domenech i Montaner for the job, Gaudi’s teacher and one of the founders of the Catalan Modernisme movement.
Sumptuous Art Nouveau exteriors and interiors (check out the black mosaic in the foyer) give a genuine five-star feel to your stay, as does the 6th floor roof terrace with bar and swimming pool. Located right at the top of the magnificent Passeig de Gracia, guests at Barcelona’s Casa Fuster Hotel also enjoy arguably the grandest stroll into the centre of town with Gaudi’s creations rearing up on either side of the street. Others may prefer to head in the opposite direction to the hip and more serene district of Gracia.
