Grand luxury at The Palace
The five-star El Palace (also known as the Hotel Palace GL or ‘Grand Luxury’) first opened in 1919, at the peak of Barcelona’s cultural and financial renaissance. Catalan tycoons were building grand mansions paid for by booming industry and Antoni Gaudi was puzzling over archictectural conundrums in the crypt of La Sagrada Familia.
Nearly 100 years on and that exciting era of Barcelona’s history lives on in the grand El Palace, which was tactfully refurbished in 2009. Soaring pillars, sweeping arches and mosaic-tiled floors all evoke the grandeur of bye-gone eras, whilst king-sized beds, DVD-players/TVs and soundproofed rooms mean that the lowliest of modern guest at El Palace lives like the richest industrialist from history.
