Olympic Stadium
Former Olympic stadium, current sport and concert venue
Barcelona got a huge makeover in the late 80s and early 90s to prepare for the 1992 Summer Olympics. One of the places that received extensive renovations during the process was the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium on Montjuic hill.
The arena was originally built for the 1929 International Exposition, with hopes of being used for the 1936 Olympics, however those went to Berlin instead. After tough times, the stadium fell into disuse by the 1970s, so when Barcelona finally got their games it was gutted and given new grandstands (in 1989).
Today, it holds both sporting events and concerts, and you can also visit the Museu Olimpic i de l’Esport (the Olympic and Sport Museum) across the street.
